HELP NEWS NETWORK aims to be an open-source news blog focused not just on inspiring people to help, but showing them how they can help. All based on the simple premise that people want to help, but often don't know where to start. Another very important goal of this blog (as an offshoot of the macarism project) is to recognize those people and organizations who have helped. Often recognition is not a motivator for those who have helped, but in order to do more good work, it can be useful to the helper to be able to show documented evidence of past efforts.

Stories about persons or organizations in need of help reveal how the reader can help. Sweat? Money? Supplies? Blood? Ideally, each story within includes advice from a local official or expert about how best to provide what is needed.

Stories about persons who have helped specifically focus on what inspired them, and how they first got started. If the act of help was an unplanned act of heroism, the focus is on what caused them to act, and what they did technically to help. In all stories about helpers, advice from the helpers is included. What can the reader do to help in a similar way?

If you are interested in contributing, please email your story (or story proposal) to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Stories will be included based on relevance and quality of writing. Photo and video journalists are also encouraged to submit.

This project is not for profit, and so pay can not be offered. Each story includes a byline, and authors contact information can also be included upon request.
